The community standard E. coli K-12 MG1655 'wild-type' sequence can be found here, although there is probably no actual strain with this genome. BOP27 is a wild-type Escherichia coli strain used in many studies conducted in the Palsson lab. The sequence of BOP27 is highly similar to the community standard E. coli K-12 MG1655 wild-type sequence. Recently, we sequenced BOP27 and used breseq to characterize its mutations compared to the reference sequence. Here we place the results in the context of a manuscript looking at Genetic Variations in Common Escherichia coli MG1655 Stock Cultures.

The inversion mentioned above is interesting as we see both the reference sequence and the inverted sequence in most sequencing runs, even those sequenced from a single colony. Below is another image with some details about the original (O1,O2) and new junctions (J1,J2) we find:
